Hello YouTubes

AM: 2:07 :: 22M (4E, 8MP, 1T, 6MP, 1T, 2E)

Today's workout in a word? BONK! I continue to tempt fate by not bringing any water/energy drink with me. I may have learned my lesson this time.

Splits for the workout:

4E: 26:30
8MP: 5:15, 5:23, 5:27, 5:22, 5:30, 5:26, 5:26, 5:24
1T: 5:10
6MP: 5:33, 5:28, 5:26, 5:31, 5:45, 5:28,
1T: 5:15
2E: 13:45

Now for all the Sherlock Holmes out there, can you guess where I started to bonk? Ouch. There were a couple of reasons for it; the aforementioned lack of hydration and also a pretty deceiving steady headwind. I could tell I was tightening up, but there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. I just hoped that I could relax and recover enough to make the last two workout miles respectable. And I think I was able to accomplish that goal. It helped that I gained a little advantage with the wind, although it somehow seemed to be in my face on the last tempo mile. Amazing how the wind picks up when you're tired.

One advantage of running this particular course on this particular day was that the bike portion of the Lifetime Fitness triathlon was taking place along the same route. It provided some distraction and I even got a few "Way to go runners" along the way. Every little bit helps. I wish I had taken full advantage by grabbing one of the water bottles off the table but I was too chicken.

But, all the cheering in the world didn't help me avoid digging pretty deep into the reserves today. The 2E at the end was rough and I was just a wreck by the time I was done. My legs didn't feel beat up, but I was just wasted energy wise. I guess that's good practice for the marathon, but man it makes me pretty worthless for the rest of the day.

I'm down with the whole run after fasting thing (preferably with a cup of coffee just to make things even more interesting with some double-vision), but I can't imagine going that far in the summer without water.

Oh, if those tri guys have their bottles mounted behind the seat they probably won't even notice you pinching one as they dig their noses into their aero bars at 15mph on a bike path.

That's one sport I don't miss at all.

This is some sick training, Patrick. And to find out it was a tough day due to the dreaded BONK just makes it that much sicker. Most impressive. Join me, and together we can rule the gal...wait, that's someone else's line.

Seriously though, I am excited to see what you can do at TCM. Keep rolling.

Thanks guys, it was definitely one of those workouts that I was glad when I was done. But the pace felt a little easier than last time. Baby steps.
